Paper Description
A study of the role of Media Studies in a secondary school curriculum: strategies and issues in planning, teaching and evaluating Media Studies learning in Years 11-13.
Because this paper relies heavily on participant initiative, you will be working independently in terms of accessing resources but with support. The Course of Study Overview contains a range of themes or topics which may change depending on the needs of those enrolled.
Paper Structure
Whole year paper: This paper is going to be managed online and will rely hugely on the initiative of participants.
You will be expected to maintain regular contact with the lecturer and with other students on Moodle and via other forums and to discipline yourself to maintain a schedule of work to contribute towards your report. We will meet together in person regularly for those able to attend as agreed by the group.
Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course should be able to:
Assessment
The paper will be assessed in accordance with the Assessment Regulations included in the University of Waikato Calendar. Note the following paragraph 9 of the Assessment Regulations in the Calendar: “Unless approved otherwise by the examiners of the papers concerned, a student must not submit as assessment material that is substantially the same as material submitted as assessment for a different paper.” Resubmissions will be accepted in the case of a failing grade for one piece of work only. In such instances, the maximum grade obtainable will be a ‘C’. You need to hand in all assignment pieces in order to complete the course.
